Reflection -Test #3 - Sec. 5 - April 21
Discuss your thoughts on taking Test #3. Were you prepared for it? If so, what strategies did you use as part of your preparation? If you were not prepared for it, what will you do next time to ensure that you do well on the test? In addition, discuss your thoughts of today's activities.

I honestly am never mentally prepared to write any kind of paper, my brain is lazy that way, especially when it comes to doing research along with it. I used essays and writing materials that I had done from my previous work from class to review and distinguish some of my known errors, such as comma placements. I actually worked on this paper for about 3 days so knowing the level of difficulty for the Argumentative/Persuasive Essay Test coming up I will most likely work on it often. Todays activities were insightful. I enjoy hearing the different topics my classmates decided on choosing.
ReplyDeleteWell I hope you are able to overcome laziness. I strongly feel if you get your work done early, It avoids staying up late last minute to complete your essay. We all do it and we all say were going to change but sometimes its just hard.
DeleteI can relate to you on having a lazy brain! My thoughts never flow, so it is always hard to think of how I want the essay to sound. I also thought today's activities were insightful!
DeleteI feel my brain gets lazy too when I start on a paper as well. It doesn't get lazy until it gets really late then that is when it starts to be focused on completing it.
DeleteI used the essays from before as well to make sure I don't make the same mistakes again. I think it's a very good idea.

DeleteTo help overcome that pattern I started working ahead. Lord have mercy, I do not even watch T.V. anymore but I don't think I'm missing out on anything really. But I stay up to date with the latest news and still work ahead. For instance, I am already working on Test #4 (Argumentative/Pursuasive Essay) My Essay will be on Community Service. My thesis is... As U.S. citizens it is our responsibility to contribute to our community.

DeleteI wasn't even prepared for the day, I missed my workout session so I had to bring my workout clothes to class and I even had to do a in class assignment because of my "preparation" which was not their today. looking forward to the next test too..

DeleteI was definitely not prepared for test #3. Instead of doing the essay early like we are supposed to, I relaxed and completely forgot about test #3. Thankfully, I remembered when i was eating lunch yesterday! Next time I will be sure to follow the calender of events, so I will not forget such assignments. Today's activities were great. It was nice hearing all the varieties of topics my colleagues chose. We should try sharing our essays next test! That will be fun!
ReplyDeleteWe all tend to procrastinate about getting our work done early. Its hard sometimes but we should always try to learn from our mistakes. I find myself looking through our syllabus daily. Without it I would be lost.

DeleteI'm so glad you remembered! I'm trying to push myself to finish my assignments earlier so that way I can relax just in case something comes up like a beach day.

DeleteIt's okay. I started mine on Friday. I didn't look at it on Saturday and then did my final draft on Sunday. At least it's only two pages.

DeleteWould be cool to hear each others essay more in detail because it makes us see what our fellow classmates encounter in our daily lives because we never know if they have it harder than us by the way we live.

DeleteI actually started preparing for test three fairly early. But because I was unsure how to cite my information it kind of slowed my process down a little bit. But I enjoyed writing this essay because I could really relate to my thesis. Our next test should be fairly easy because I know exactly what to do and how to do it. I may even complete my next essay this week to get it out of the way and get more of my peers to review my essay. I enjoyed hearing about my classmates topics and thesis. I think it would be nice if we could read our essays because I'm really interested to hear my peers research and ideas on they're topics.

DeleteIt is great that you prepared early. If you prepare early, you will have a lot of time to work on it, and you will not be pressured! I definitely agree that we should all read our essays aloud! It sounds very fun, and I would love to hear what my fellow colleagues wrote!
DeleteI thought this essay would be a little difficult, but it was actually simple. I think it is because I chose a topic that caught my interest and had a lot of information along with it.

DeleteWhen I was taking test #3, I searched for expository topics and came across depression. I researched more about it because I think it has more meaning behind it. I felt pretty prepared for the test. The strategies I used was clustering because it helps me label the important things down. Also, it is easier for me to scan through.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that you chose a topic that interests you. It will have your attention, and make writing the essay easier! Clustering was the strategy I used as well. I find clustering very convenient and fun!

DeleteI have used clustering in every single essay we have done so far. I feel most comfortable with it and don't plan on changing any of my strategies. Its easy to use and is an effective way of organizing your information.

DeleteI was well prepared for test 3 because once we started talking about this topic in class I already knew what I wanted to write about. I enjoyed writing about my little sister because I really do admire her a lot. I used a lot of the strategies that we learned this semester, such as, clustering and listing. Listing down all the things I admire about my sister made it a lot easier to organize and write my essay. I love classes like today where we share our topics and thesis statements. It's very enjoyable to hear about what everyone wrote about.

DeleteIt truly says a lot for an older sister to admire a younger sister. Usually it is the other way around. But I think I can relate because my older brother has told me he admires me for a lot of things I have accomplished in life. I used clustering and listing this entire semester for every essay we have done. To me it is a quick, easy and effective way to organize information.

DeleteI love the topic you chose. It is great you chose a topic that interests you, because it will make writing the essay much easier and you will enjoy doing it more. I too really admire my younger sister. I wish we could have read our essays aloud. I would be very interested in why you admire her so much. Classes like today are very fun because we share our topics, and we can leave class very early!

DeleteI was very prepared. As I have said that I was very fortunate about my topic, I was able to discuss and write my essay. The essay for this test #3, I learned a lot about it. It reminds me about how I was going through the major I desire. As I was young, I was very interested in the tourism field. As usual, I did my essay like I did my other last two essays.

DeleteI feel that I was pretty prepared for test 3. My topic was fairly easy to write about because it focused on what nonmaterial things that made me happy. It really had me thinking about intangible items that mean more to me than material ones. I was surprised to see the facts that came with what I was focusing on. For the last test, I plan on using different methods of brainstorming rather than what I'm used to. Just to have a feel for it. I enjoy listening to my fellow students had as their topics. It's interesting to hear the opinions of others just from their thesis.

DeleteActually I was not really prepared for test number 3. For instance, the topic was okay. I chose a topic which was easy for me to talk about it. However, I totally forgot to do the citation part. I only thought that we only write from our own experience.... However the class activity reminds me about the citing part. So for the next test I will for sure do it.. Overall, I really learn something new and I enjoyed listening to my classmates presentation about their test.
ReplyDeleteGirl, I totally feel you on this one. But, we discussed it over the phone and that you were very confident about it and now your saying that you weren't prepared. Sistah, I got you ! You did great, I even peer reviewed your essay and there were nothing wrong about it, I mean you just needed to work on your thesis statement and you were good to go ! You are awesome sistah !

DeleteTest #3 was pretty simple. Having to learn Expository/Informative writing has developed my skills. I thought of a personal experience wrote by giving explanation along with information to share. My topic was about "Home Remodeling" and my thesis was how Home Remodeling comes with hard-work, time and money. You asked in class if I sited on any information I may have used but I did not only because everything I wrote about was all my personal experience. Today's class activities were alright. We took individual turns discussing what we wrote about and basically what we've learned.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was writing Test #3, I think I was really prepared. I found it very easy to write. I wrote about why getting a driver's license is important to teenagers. I went through the experience of obtaining a license so I used some of my personal experience as support for my thesis. I have to say that I am pretty anxious and nervous about Test #4, though.
ReplyDeleteYes, I liked your topic a lot. My niece is now eighteen years old and ready to graduate from Simon Sanchez High and her Driver's License is in the works. Having to transport her to and from the driving school can be time consuming. I can't wait until she is able to actually drives herself.

DeleteWhen I took test number 3 I was very prepared. I did some research on my topic before I began writing which made typing it out faster than expected. I also listed them down and went into detail about them. This also contributed towards finishing the test faster. I thought today's activities were as insightful as always. We discussed our topics and through that I learned much more about the other topics I didn't choose.

DeleteHaha I was not so prepared for this test #3 expository essay, After yesterday was over I forgot we had class. I had to find out in the morning to log in and check the calendar again. What a freak out when I read today we were meeting in the classroom for test #3, I woke up so fast and did some research before I came into class because at that point I knew already I was going to do a in class test. Next time I will be checking every Friday night our class calendar to see what is the topic of the day for the day of the next class to be more prepared for it. ABOVE ALL todays activities were cool.. Was not much to do but main focus was test #3 thesis statements and topics sharing. Pretty mellow session. I liked it.

DeleteIt seems like you are in Easter Sunday mode or something. I felt the same way after every holiday. It is good that you are taking action and checking the schedule.
DeleteI recommend you print out the calendar of events and put it somewhere you'll notice.
DeleteI was sadly unprepared therefore I had to do the in class test. I usually get stuff done ahead of time so i dont stress but today i failed to do so. Next time I will make sure i do the test in advance to avoid staying back in class. Doing the test at home gives me a better chance a better grade because it gives me more time to think, research and write.

DeleteFor some reason, I did not want to do the take home test. Instead, I opted to do the in-class test. On the last two days before the test, I seemed hesitant to write how music affected my life. Oddly, I knew my topic and gathered information a few days ago, but my thoughts were not flowing. Maybe, I just needed motivation to write it. In a sense, I believe that atmosphere plays a big role productivity as well as companions. So, if anyone wants to write their essay together contact me. I enjoyed listening to my classmates read their essay, because it shows their inner self. I seemed to express myself better when I took the test in class, because I would have missed a crucial part of my essay which was the cause and effect.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I seemed to know what to write but it does not flow as well. Also, I do agree that it is the atmosphere and environment you are in to write an effective essay. Most people get in the zone when they are situated.
DeleteTo be honest, I did not prepare for this test at all due to my other classes like Medical term test, ethics group project and test, etc. To me, this seems rushed. I forgot all about the researching and adding sources. Also, it realized that I am still struggling with my grammar. However, for some reason, it seemed like I am back to my old writing. Something about this essay form and research papers in general felt different compared to the previous tests. Anyways, I will try to start ahead of time and get more people to peer review my essay (if I get the chance to.). Today's class activity felt relaxing. Similar to the previous topic sharing, I am intrigue of everyone's essay because there are a variety of topics depicted by each person. It makes sharing essay topic exciting.
ReplyDeleteI did not prepare for Exam #3 well because I had to study a lot things for other exams. When I considered to choose one topic, I was nervous because of bio exam. In fact, I would write without any efforts if I did not relax myself. When I considered to choose a topic for this exam, I found one that I would be able to write comfortably. The topic that I chose was about effects of music. For the expository essay, I had to find some facts for supporting my thesis. I was enjoyable when I wrote the essay because I was able to learn skills to support my thesis with facts and evidences. Even if I could not listen others' introductions of their essays, I felt more comfortable than previous exam, because I was able to introduce my essay well today, I think.
ReplyDeleteI was prepared for test #3. I used the writing process worksheet stages 1,2 and 3 to develop my essay because it is always a big help. I also explained many of my reasons in details which helped my essay grow. Although I was well prepared for it, the only trouble I had was citing my sources. Overall, I enjoyed writing this essay.
