Reflection - Test #2 - Sec. 4 - April 9
Discuss your thoughts on taking Test #2. Were you prepared for it? If so, what strategies did you use as part of your preparation? If you were not prepared for it, what will you do next time to ensure that you do well on the test? In addition, discuss your thoughts of today's activities.

I would say that I was prepared to take Test #2. The fact that it was a narrative essay made it easy for me. I didn't really have to use stage one since everything that I wanted to write about was already in my head. It was all organized in my head too since the story was in chronological order. I just barely utilized the first two stages and went ahead and wrote a first draft. I then improved the draft and made a final one. As for todays activities, they were pretty brief. The few of us who did attend class all shared our take home essays and what we learned from it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you!. the narrative essay was kind of easy for me too. and yes today's activity was very brief and well organized.
DeleteI enjoyed writing the narrative essay because it gave me the ability to write about a meaningful experience that has happened in my life. The take home test also gave me the chance to prepare and structure my essay properly and get it peer reviewed. I was able to correct my mistake and improve my writing. I also agree that we were all able to take something out of class today.
DeleteHey Darius as long as you did your essay I'm happy for you. Keep up the good work and you will be a good writer. Anyone could write a creative essay if they put their mind to it. I am more of a visualize learner so, whatever I see around I write and I foreplay what I just did with all my six senses.
DeleteI would say that I enjoyed taking test #2 because it allowed me to write about a meaningful experience that has happened in my life. It gave me the chance to share something that was hard for me and explain how it also helped me become the person I am today. I feel that I was well prepared for the test and that I enjoyed taking the time to write it. My peer who reviewed my paper explained how my paper was meaningful and explains why I am the way I am. Class was overall productive today, and not to mention I enjoyed getting released early.

DeleteTaking test #2 was indeed enjoyable. The experience I wrote about was very recent but writing about it made me relive the moment such as the thoughts and feelings I possessed at the moment. I never thought that I would be able to share this experience much less write about it because I always thought that no words can be found or be enough for the experience but I was proven wrong when I tried my hardest to complete this test.
DeleteI also enjoyed taking test #2 as well! That's great that you got to write about an experience that means a lot to you! Peer review is always good. I enjoyed today's class, and how it was short!
DeleteI agree that test two was meaningful since it was based on our experiences. It was nice actually that we get to do this and share a part of us with the class. Not only this allows us to be better writers, it also allows us to know each other better. Yes, some parts of our stores are hard to share with others, but somehow this time, it was easier to do. I guess it was because we kind of got close to each other every time we share our stories with the class and they share theirs.
DeleteNarrative essay was the bomb. I love telling a good story during bed and during day when I eat my last captain crunch. I am more of a story-teller. Some people say I should be reporter or author. That's good you finish your exam.
DeleteI would say I was sort of prepared for it. As we continue learning about the four major essays each one is more difficult than the next one. To prepare myself for the next essay I would study more on how to write the essay and to focus more on the grammatical and simple errors I make.
ReplyDeleteI would say so too. When writing my narrative paper for this test I found myself constantly deleting what I had previously because of my confusion in what type of essay I'm writing. Going back and reviewing what type of essay it is you're writing will lessen the confusion and difficulty you find when writing these essays.
DeleteIt's good you were in some way prepared for test #2. That is true, as we continue learning about the four major essays, we improve each time. That would be a great strategy, next time you take another test!
DeleteConsidering that I already experienced test one, I was prepared and I knew what to expect on test two. This time, I was actually able to finish it early and have a chance to edit it as much as possible. As for strategies in writing my essay, I used outlining in order to ensure that the sequence of events in my narration is accurate. Also, peer review helped so much because it gave me a different perspective to consider to smooth out my essay.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, having different people peer review your work helps in smoothing out your essay so that others may understand. When you're writing your essay you're writing like how you would speak but with the constant revisions from others you will be able to create a paper that can be best understood and read by everyone.
DeleteThat's great that you were well prepared for test #2. Finishing it early is actually a smart thing to do and I will definitely consider that for the next test. Peer review is extremely helpful when it comes to writing essays and helps us fix our simple mistakes and learn from it.
DeleteI agree with you Trisha, outlining was a great help to put our sequence of events in order. It is great that you were well prepared for the test #2 and that getting different perspectives with peer reviews has helped smoothed out our essay.

DeleteTest #2 was a fun experience! I was able to write a story about an experience I had back in my high school days. Yes I was prepared for this test. I actually did the test ahead of time, thinking it was due already. Turns out, it wasn't, and I was able to turn it in early. Today's activities went by really fast. We just talked about our Test #2, its topic sentence and what we had learned.

DeleteI agree! Test #2 was sure a fun for all of us I must say, since it seemed like majority of the class was more prepared than the last test.

DeleteIn my perspective I was somewhat prepared for this essay. Writing a narrative essay is basically like writing a short story about a particular topic. The strategies that I used are make an outline on the essay using the writing process worksheet, free write about my topic, revise the free writing, then have my essay peer reviewed by one of my friend.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, today's activities consists of the presentation of topic, thesis statement, and what you have learned about the essay for those who have done the take home essays. I find it interesting because we all have different topics, thesis statements, and what we learned from writing our essays.
Writing a narrative essay is like writing a short story. It is good that you are using the strategies learned in class to help you develop your essay's.
DeleteI agree with you! It is very similar to writing a short story. But in a short story, it is always important to remember key factors such as the plot, characters, setting, etc. But all-in-all, I think you got it right!
DeleteI would say I was confident taking Test #2 because I was much more prepared than I was than the last test. I utilized all the three stages to format my essay, although since it was a narrative essay it did not require that much work put into the three stages. I would say my thesis has improved and well connected with my writing. Today activity was short, I enjoyed listening to the other's thesis and what they have learned from writing this paper.

DeleteUsing the three stages of the writing process in composing your essay is indeed helpful. This makes writing mush easier winch it organizes the sequences according to the way they happened in how you remember them. I agree that narrative writing is easy and it does not require as much work compared to the other types of essays.

DeleteMy thoughts on taking Test #2 was that I gave it my all. Last time I chose to take the test in class and didn't necessarily feel confident about what I was submitting, this test however I was able to take my time in writing the essay and making any corrections that needed to be done. The strategies that I used as a part of preparing me to compose Test #2 was looking up words that would suffice what I was trying to explain in my narrative paper. Today's activity in class was short but within that short time frame I learned different things that posed as reminders of things going on in my every day life. Through my classmates thesis I'm reminded of the morals and values I was taught growing up, it was a great start for the day.
ReplyDeleteLast test, I was not confident either. I was not prepared as much as I was with this one because I did not know what to expect. Trying to search for more appropriate words or improving your essay's vocabulary is a good way to improve your writing. It gives it that sophisticated and more mature feel to the reader which by the way sometimes improve your grades. Listening to what the thesis of our classmates was indeed interesting because we learn a part of them every time they share something about themselves with the class.
DeleteI could not agree more Honeina! I think taking test #2 this time around made us more confident since we were much more prepared for it. We did not stress about the time running out because we were able to work on it at home. Also, you are right about how through each other's thesis reminded many of us of the morals and values we were all taught.

DeleteI am fully prepared for the test #2. I did use all the three strategies. I do the listing, and I also wrote about my thesis statement, and lastly I wrote my first draft. After all these I look over everything and checked if I did any mistakes. Then I wrote my final draft. And for todays activities, it was well organize. Few of us who attend class shared our take home essays and I find it very helpful because I did learn something from listening to my other classmates on what they wrote on their papers.

DeleteI agree, test #2 allowed us to practice using the three step process in our writing. It also allowed us to hear about our classmates experiences and how it helped them. Although class was short, it was productive and an enjoyable experience.

DeleteIt is good that you did all the things that we have learned in English class. The steps that we learned from English class can surely vastly improve the quality of the papers we write.
DeleteThis test was one of the easier types of essays. I was able to relate well to the topics given. The preparation and writing of this easy were quite easy. I used the writing process worksheet to help me with organization of my essay. This process really helped! I enjoyed having the ease of expressing myself without having to think about what should go next. Today's activities were helpful because we were able to listen to what everyone had learned from this essay. Overall, productive day!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the writing process really helped me organize my essay. I also enjoyed writing about my topic and sharing my brief experience with the class. The take home test is really helpful and comes in handy when writing an essay which makes me appreciate it even more. I am thankful that we were able to have a take home test because it helped me prepare and structure my essay better.
DeleteI agree that this test is easier compared to the first one because it's more relatable. Because we already had these experiences and we know the whole story behind it, writing it is a piece of cake. I like that you used the writing process to organize our essay. Maybe next time on the next test, I'll use the same strategy to better my essay.

DeleteIt was difficult for me because I took the in-class assignment. I had no clue that the in-class would be based on that it was 10x harder then the take home test. I was very sleepy that day did poorly on it, but my next exam I hope I do well and for others. Everyone have consequences in what they do some change other stay same.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! Doing the in-class assignment is definitely going to be more difficult since you are being timed to write your essay. This is why I opt to do the take home essay rather than this. But at least you tried doing this kind of option.
DeleteI took an in class test. I think I did alright. Got to talk about one of my most frightening experiences. Hopefully I do better next test.
ReplyDeleteNarratives was another type of essay that I had a hard time writing. I was confused with descriptive essays and I think I need more practice in writing this kind of essay.
