Hi everyone! I'm not too sure if im doing this right, but I'll try. Today was my first day in this class, and it was awesome! We read short stories, and presented our post cards. It was awesome meeting all of my EN 100 class mates! :) -Deion
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to meet you and the others. I am glad that you enjoy the class. At times, I do enjoy presenting postcards (essay brain stretcher). I can tell you that our EN100 class will be interesting and awesome.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed today's activity. I liked how we introduced ourselves to break from our shyness and open up a little more. I found English much more interesting. There's more to it than just paragraphs and grammar. I did feel more appreciation towards the author for making me realize everything around me and whats happening in the world today. I never heard of MLA until today.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! it was refreshingly enjoyable. I don't normally like that part when we have to introduce ourselves but it was enjoyable. And it was also my first time hearing about MLA format.
DeleteI enjoyed today's activity as it hit so close to home. The essay we read on the Chinese girl was really interesting to me because of what Guam went through and is still going through. When the Americans came, I believe some individuals were excited about the new experiences and new things the Americans brought with them. However, dealing with the Americanization today, I feel as if our generation is so deep into the American culture that it's difficult to identify what the Chamorro culture actually is. Not only had Guam experienced this situation, but a whole lot of other countries have, including America. The Native Americans also had to adopt the European culture as their own.

ReplyDeleteIn today's activity I learned more than intended. Not only did I learn some admirable air guitar skills, but I also found out how to reference works in matters such as MLA. This is a great skill for me, personally, to learn because I have always had trouble with text based writing. Though I didn't connect personally with either descriptive essays seeing as I've never been planted too deeply in any cultural, or nature affairs but I do appreciate their input on the matter. Their essays helped describe descriptive essay writing and, in a nut shell, I thoroughly enjoyed today's lesson.
ReplyDeleteI really like the air guitar skills. I agree that it has been an learning experience when I learn how to reference in MLA. I am sure that by the end of this semester, we as a class will be able to apply this in the future.
DeleteI agree. It was my first time hearing about the MLA format too. And of course learning what air guitar is and how its done. It was pretty cool.
DeleteToday's activities has been an enjoyable and refreshing experience. To begin with, I learn plenty about the MLA format. In most situations, I always use the APA format for all my assignments from a short report to a class presentation. Another thing is the discussion about descriptive essays. Even though the majority of students already learn the fundamentals of a descriptive essays, it has been a good review for me considering that I have not use this type of essay for a while. Finally, I met with five new students each having a wonderful and joyful personality.
ReplyDeleteI agree. There really is a lot of formats and steps in writing that I'm yet to still learn about. I too have always used the APA format in most cases. I thought I had learned enough formats but learning about MLA format was quite refreshing.
DeleteTo my surprise, I found todays class period very enjoyable. Not only did I get a better understanding of the MLA format and descriptive writing but had the pleasure of meeting new people in my class. What stuck out to me the most was when we were reading about the Chinese girl who wanted to be more western. She was embarrassed of her ethnicity and it made me think about my actions toward my customs. I too get embarrassed but the essay reminded me that I should be embracing my ethnicity rather than criticizing it. Plus, the air guitar lessons we had today were very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about the class time. Most classmates did learn something very beneficial about MLA and descriptive writing. I could say that this semester will be interesting.
DeleteI have not tried to read a textbook, but I had to read some paragraphs in class. Therefore, I could realize what problems I have with English. Even if I could not understand a lot of things, I thought that I was joining in class more than other classes that I took last semester. Moreover, today's lesson was interesting. I could learn a lot of things such as MLA and descriptive writing. Today's lesson was meaningful to me.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you enjoyed the class. Even I learned a lot about MLA and descriptive writing.
DeleteSo for my first day in class, it was surprisingly interesting. I learned about MLA format and basic steps in citing your paper. I think we also touched a bit on plagiarism. Another interesting topic of today's class was the essay. It basically summarizes a girl's living in America and influenced by its culture. However as time passes she realizes and tries to make up on how to learn about your native ethnicity before its too late. This is especially very interesting to me and I think most of us can relate since our homes have been inhabitate by various ethnicity and how we our leaders try to contain our very own culture yet adapt to the modern changes.
