An expository essay is finding, giving, and arguing informational ideas on paper. This genre can be found in most academic essays. Most students would thinking of this as a debate conversation in essay format. An example of an expository essay would be a compare and contrast, cause and effects, and other informative ideas. As for my topic of choice, I would either pick explain why someone I know would be a good leader, or why getting your drivers license is the most important part of a teenager's life. It seems like an easy topic to discuss about because I experience both of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you, reading your post just gave me some ideas about how to write good eexpository essay.
DeleteYes, expository essays is like a debate where you either argue or agree upon.
DeleteReading this made me realize that expository and argumentative essays are sort of connected.
DeleteI felt the same way about the connection with argumentative. Also the topic choice is also something I can agree with,
DeleteThank you! reading what an expository essay in your definition is a lot informative than what I had in mind. It was a little difficult to put into meaning for me.
DeleteYou just simplified the meaning of expository essay for me. Thank you for the helpful example you gave.
DeleteReading your summary of an expository essay really helped! I find your topics very interesting and I would like to ready your essay.
DeleteExpository essay in my own words and understanding is when you write about something, like to explain about it or describing it. In this type of essay you will need some of evidence to support your topic. I chose the topic "Why a person is a role model to you". This topic that i am going to talk about I think i have better explanation to discuss about it.
ReplyDeleteYes, an expository essay is explaining an idea and providing evidence to support that idea.
DeleteI think it's a good idea to choose your topic based on what information you could put into your essay.
DeleteChoosing a topic that chan be written with the essay is highly correlated with your information. Understand, what you write is also very important.
DeleteYes. It is basically giving as much information as you can give and than being able to explain and supporting that idea.
DeleteI agree. In an expository essay you describe your topic thoroughly.
DeleteI agree. Expository in a way is like describing.
DeleteInformative essay in my own words it to inform or instruct about something. Let's say my topic was about the "bad or good day at school". Basically i would inform and stress about my experiences in school. To tell the reader about it and to answer the 5 W's and 1 H in my essay.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terek, you remind me about the 5W's that it is really important to write an essay by answering those question.
DeleteYes, the who, what, where, when, and how are important in writing an essay.
DeleteI agree. The 5 W's would be so helpful in an informative essay.
DeleteI feel the same way about the 5 W's. It is important to have those question words to make the essay intriguing to your readers. Also, it will improve yourself as a writer.
DeleteI really like that you used the 5 w's and the 1 h as a reference. Your essay should answer these questions that way the reader isn't left confused.
DeleteThats a good idea to use the 5 W's and 1 H because you already outlined your body for your essay.
DeleteI actually haven't thought to use the 5 W's and 1 H. Thank you for suggesting to use that method so that the reader isn't too confused.
DeleteWhen we write an expository essay, we need to explain ideas in detail and examine ideas. An expository essay require us more informative ideas and evidences.
ReplyDeleteIf I write an expository essay, I would choose "Explain why some teens commit suicide." Teens suicide is one of the biggest social problems. Today, a lot of teens commits suicide, and this problem is being magnified increasingly. An expository essay needs complete ideas and evidences, so if I choose this topic, I would be able to present my own ideas. I also would be able to find the reasons of teens suicide from news and books which contain a definite information.
Today's activities were meaningful to me like other lessons. I could learn about an expository essay, and controlling ideas. I should study what an expository essay is because it would help me to write a good essay which contain a definite idea and evidences.
I think teen suicide would be a very interesting topic to write about. I agree that the issue is growing and it's so unfortunate.
DeleteYes, an expository essay need information about the idea to support it.
DeleteYour topic choice, though pretty heavy, is a very relevant issue to be discussed.
DeleteA good choice of topic. We are writing about the same topic. It would be interesting to read yours. I agree with you about expository essay. You need to be able to give information and support it with evidence.
DeleteYou can provide enough evidence for your topic because you can search for the increase rates of teenage suicides. Also, you can inform the issue about this topic.
DeleteAn expository essay is an essay that basically explains a topic. The most likely format to use for an expository essay would be an introduction paragraph, three paragraphs that support your take on the topic, and then a conclusion paragraph. Though you explain your take on the topic, you're supposed to use facts. I would think that an expository essay topic would be something you can debate within yourself, but there will still be a fact of the matter. I would probably write an expository essay on why parents are stict.
ReplyDeleteGreat topic of choice! I think we can all relate to why parents are strict though some people probably still have no clue and still question it :)
DeleteYour statement about expository essays is good. Giving and explaining your facts is key to writing a good informative essay.
DeleteVery interesting. I agree with you about the essay topic being debatable within yourself. You definitely want to look at the pros and cons of the topic.
DeleteAn expository essay deals with explaining ideas and supporting or arguing against that idea. Usually, the structure of an essay include an introduction paragraph, three supporting paragraphs or evidences, and a conclusion. If I was to write an expository essay, I would pick " explain why music affects your life" because I feel attach to music for a very long time. Music is the funniest way to express the way I feel. Today's activities were very insightful because I learned about writing an expository essay. It is great to learn about different types of essay because it could help us become better writers.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. It will help us become better writers because then, we'll know what kind of essays to write and also the different topics we could write about.
DeleteI haven't seen music as a topic until now, and I'm glad you brought it up. Music, I feel, doesn't get as much appreciation as it deserves, seeing that it's highly influential in the media of our generation,
DeleteI agree with Joseph. I too haven't seen a music topic but its good to know there's really no limits to what you can write despite the type of an essay.
DeleteI liked how you explained the structure of an expository essay very simple! It is much easier to remember it now.
DeleteExpository essays are used to express, an argue able point using facts. These essays are common in a school setting when looking at a multitude of essays with a comparison of topics. If I were to chose an expository topic to write about it would be who I think is best suited to be a leader. I could go into detail with this topic, because usually I'm not much of a leader, but I do know what I want in one. Another topic that I'm thinking of writing about is about who I look to as a role model and why.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of topic! I hope to read your paper because I am interested in anothers insight of what qualities, etc... make a good leader or what one should possess.
DeleteI agree. Expository essays are to give information and being able to support it or argue using your own ideas. Interesting choice of topic. I would be glad to hopefully read yours.
DeleteI agree. An expository essay should be used to inform the reader on your idea and why you have chosen to write about that certain topic.
DeleteI see what you are saying. Expository essays help inform the reader about a certain topic with facts. I also like the topic you would choose, because people have different reasons to acknowledge someone as a leader. It would be very interesting to read!
DeleteAn expository essay is basically an informational essay. When writing an expository essay, writers will support or oppose an idea and explain reasons for their argument in a formal way. . The topic I would choose is "Explain why some teens commit suicide" because I have had a few friends that had this incident happen to them and I may be able to give a few reasons why teens commit suicide. I would be able to explain and support that idea.
ReplyDeleteI like your definition of what an expository essay is to you. I can't relate to your topic of choice, but I am pretty sure it is devastating to lose someone you know/care about. Good topic!
DeleteI like your topic choice. I think most of us can relate to this topic at least once in our life time.
DeleteAn expository essay in my opinion is about gathering important ideas to put on paper. It is also like having a debate with your own writing/idea. It consists of an introduction, three supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. If I were to pick a topic for an expository essay i would choose " Explain why parents are sometimes strict" because I am a parent, therefore I can seriously relate to what I would put down on paper.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice topic to write about. It is something relatable and something you have experience. I agree that it is like an debate in essay format. This is something that students should keep in mind when writing this type of essay.
DeleteI liked the idea of how you chose a topic that you can relate to. I never thought of it as a debate. I will surely keep that in mind.
DeleteWow, I really like your topic! I never thought about looking at the parent's point of view. Your topic reminded me there are both sides to every story. I would love to read your essay.
DeleteGood choice in your topic! I find your topic very interesting to read about.
DeleteAn expository essay is basically an essay that expose a subject with well investigated proven facts. It doesn't derived by one's opinion but actual facts. It consist of five approach. The introductory paragraph, three body paragraph and of course the conclusion. It has to be concise and clear with good supporting facts. A good example of expository essays are the ones you read on the news. For example an underground drug lab with one of those mom & pop's stores. If you think about it reporters mainly write exposing essays but of course they do a little digging before they publish their story.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting point of your definition of expositoy essays. I agree that the news is a good example of this essay. Your investigation of the topic should be proven with facts in essay format.
DeleteI agree. That is a point that I need to consider when writing my essay.
DeleteAn expository essay is an essay that describers what you are arguing about. Not completely arguing about it but what you have to say on the topic. Whether you agree or disagree it's important to have an opinion about something. Everyone has their own opinion towards a subject and it's important to discuss topics with peers to exchange information. Through this essay you are given the opportunity to express your argument. I would choose to explain why some teens (girls) wear makeup. I find this topic interesting because I notice that a lot of teenagers wear makeup and there's definitely nothing wrong with wearing makeup. I just think that every girl is beautiful in their own skin.
ReplyDeleteIn an expository essay, the writer works to investigate an subject, analyze and carefully look over said idea, and then argue on behalf of their idea. You can do this through comparing topics or defining your topic. If I were to choose a topic for my expository essay I'd choose "which animal would I be and why?" I like this topic because it allows me to be any animal of my choosing and I really think this is just a cool topic to discuss that allows me to be creative as well as factual.
ReplyDeleteI think an expository (informative) essay is an essay that focuses on a certain topic, and goes deep in detail about that topic. You should not use opinions in an expository essay. Informative essays are a great way to give a reader a better understanding of a topic. The topic i would choose is 'If I were an animal, what would i be and why', because theres so much i could write about. I would be a squid because I would be cute and squishy.
ReplyDeleteYou are so interesting and very unpredictable. I love your choice of animal. You can describe how you can defend yourself by using ink.
DeleteInteresting choice of an animal to pick. I think it would be tough to find characteristics of a squid and how it would relate to you or a human in general.

ReplyDeleteExpository Essays are basically essays that explain something with facts instead of opinions. So instead of pulling ideas out of your head like we have with prior essays we'd have to base our information on facts that have been researched. I would choose what animal I would be and why. I would choose an animal that I best relate to and research information on related characteristics between me and the animal of my choosing.
ReplyDeleteAn expository essay states an argument that is provided with factual proof. It is proven in a clear and concise matter. This essay can be completed by a comparison, contrast, definition, and example. If I were to choose a topic, it would be "Why Parents Should Give a Little Freedom to their Children." I chose this topic because I can argue about the outcome of this statement.
ReplyDeleteI agree, expository (informative) essays should be written in a clear and concise way. I think your topic is really great because I believe we all need freedom in this world. I would love to read your essay!
DeleteI think thats a good topic to write about because you get to write some of your own personal experiences. Also I think finding research information on this won't be to difficult. Your probably going to have to read a lot of articles online though.
