An argumentative essay is a type of essay in which you try to persuade your audience into taking your side. You will have to search for good supporting facts to persuade your audience and have a very convincing opinion. If I had to choose one of the topics listed, it would be should America have the same health program as Europe or Canada. I would choose this topic because America should have a free health program like Canada. It will not only help thousands of Americans that do not have health care, but benefit it's country as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your definition of an argumentative essay. Great topic! I think America should have a free and effective health program just like Canada. It would help all the people without health care. But most of all, it would help America be a much more prosperous nation!
DeleteYes, I agree that an argumentative essay must persuade the reader to what topic it is trying to present, and this could only be done by providing sufficient evidential support to back back up the argument. I like your choice of topic because there's a big discussion that could be extracted out of it which is ideal for extensive research, one of the main components of an argumentative essay. Also, I agree with you that the U.S. should have the same health benefits like those of in Europe and Canada.
DeleteI strongly agree with your topic of choice. America should have a free health program because a majority of our county does not have health insurance. It is definitely a topic I would want to see further researched, to know what the pro and cons are. If can find evidence to support your topic then I encourage you to stick with the topic and expand your ideas on it.

In an ideal society, everyone would be able to freely access health facilities I think this would greatly help the masses of people dying of diseases due to inability to buy medicine and or access higher health facilities (in serious cases). A great percentage of America still relies on these masses, who cannot afford to pay for extensive health services, and it would really be best if they were also supported by a free health program.

DeleteIn class today, we discussed the four different kinds of paragraphs. These are Introductory, Developmental, Transitional, and concluding. Each type of paragraph plays an important role in the writing of an essay. We also discussed two different paragraph patterns. Pattern A has a topic sentence, which is followed by more than one support. Pattern B also has a topic sentence which is followed by support but ends with a concluding sentence. I understand the difference between these two patterns and can clearly distinguish it when reading an essay or paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI agree that each and every type of paragraph plays an important role in writing an argumentative and other kinds of essays as well. Without these elements, the essay would be weak and lacking the fluidity to present itself clear to the reader. In today's class discussion about the different paragraph patterns, I learned as well as you and the rest of the class, about how to distinguish between A and B.

DeleteA argumentative essay is a type of essay that requires a student to learn about a particular topic, collect evidence about that topic, and make their position on where they stand. A argumentative essay should always be clear and precise. The topic I would write about would be, Drivers in Guam should not be permitted to use cell phones while driving. I would write about this topic because it seems very interesting and it applies to our everyday life. I enjoyed today's activities. We read about the Basic Paragraph Patterns and got to do 2 exercises on it. I also enjoyed the essay brain stretcher. My picture was the Coronado Bridge, in Sand Diego.

DeleteThis type of essay requires us to investigate the topic we choose. It differs from the previous expository essay by involving more research and pre-writing. We first start with a thesis statement, then move onto clear and logical transitions between the introduction, body, and conclusion. I must ensure that there is evidential support whether factual, logical, statistical, or anecdotal. This essay must have a complete argument in order to persuade the reader to be in your favour. I would choose the topic classroom size of grades K through 5 state wide should be set at a maximum of 20 students. I would choose this topic because I am studying to become a teacher and would love to research on the focus on kids K through 5. Today's activity was helpful because I learned how even a paragraph has structure or patterns. This information was very helpful towards my essay writing procedures. Overall, great class activity today.
ReplyDeleteThe argumentative essay does require the writer to investigate the topic they have chosen. It is also very important that it has a complete argument, so that it doesn't leave the reader confused. I also agree that the classroom size should be set to a maximum of 20 students. This gives each student more one on one time with the teacher, and a greater chance at success.
DeleteIt is very important for a writer to investigate the topic they will be writing about. Having a thesis statement with supporting evidence It is also important to have the audience be in your favor because that means that you have a valid point and your support is very clear and precise. Your topic of choice is very interesting because most people don't notice large classes as a problem. Limiting the classroom size will help each student get the help that they need and be able to succeed in their studies.

DeleteAn argumentative essay is a type of writing that requires a thorough research in the topic or area of discussion that you are trying to prove, in this type of writing the most important thing is to be persuasive especially with the evidence that you have collected. The topic that I would choose to write about would be not allowing novels that have explicit content in high school libraries. I would choose this topic because I'm a student that has been through high school libraries with these books as well as have classmates that have experienced this, from these two reasons I can use them as sources or support for my argument as to why these novels should not be in school libraries.

DeleteArgumentative essay is a type of writing where the use of extensive amount of research and data is highly needed. The writer must not rely fully on the internet as a source of information. He or she must conduct a filed research such as survey, an interview, an experiment, or a simple observation. Even though there's a large number of gathered information, as he, or she writes, the writer must make clear and smooth transitions from one sentence to another. The thesis should be stated in the first paragraph and it must be concise and well defined. If I were to choose a topic from the given list, I would select the one that talks about how all animal experimentation (including cancer research) should be outlawed as advances in technology have made animal testing unnecessary. I find this topic interesting because I am a person that loves animals and I find it very troubling to see them being treated horribly for the sake of science.

DeleteAs an animal lover myself, I strongly agree with you topic of choice. Animals are living creatures that should not be mistreated as if they have no say in their lives. Someone should stand up for the animals that are being used as test subjects. It is a very big subject and I agree that it should be outlawed and banned.
DeleteI agree that having broader ways of obtaining research and data separates that of a prominent english writer and that of a mediocre one. One should not only use sources from the internet! There are myriads of other ways of gaining information and that in itself is a journey towards even greater heights of skillful writing.

This essay is similar to the expository essay but it requires the writer to do intense research and it has to be lengthy. Unlike the expository essay it requires the writer to do less research and the essay does not have to be lengthy.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to choose a topic on an argumentative essay, the topic that I would have chosen is that drivers nationwide should not be permitted to use cell phones while driving whether it would be talking or texting. The reason for this are research shows that the usage of cellphones while driving will cause the driver to be prone to accidents, and I find it distracting to use cellphones while driving.

DeleteYes, cell phone use should be outlawed nationwide. This will prevent people from being distracted by their cellular devices and help keep our roads safe. This will also prevent care accidents and injuries from happening. This is a great topic to write about because it is very common and should be stopped as soon as possible. Many people do not realize the danger they put themselves and others in when they use their phones while driving.

The topic you chose was very interesting because it's very vast and arguable through an extensive amount of evidential support which is one of the objective of writing an argumentative essay. DeleteAn Argumentative essay is a type of essay in which the writer's purpose is to try to persuade the readers to the certain stance in a certain issue. This essay requires the writer to have an extensive research or knowledge about the topic, to properly prove his/her stance properly. This essay must have evidential support that persuades the readers' stance about the topic, which be written in the body. If I were to choose from the list given to us, I would choose the one about death row inmates as subjects for medical testing rather than animals. I chose this topic because, back in high school, I extensively wrote a paper against death penalty for half a year. I think I would want to expand and learn more about the topic, especially now that I am in college. Today was a pretty normal English class. Like any other classes that we had before, we had to read a text from the book, and we had to answer some exercises from the book. The more we learn about these essays, the more excited I get to actually write them.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree to your definition of an argumentative essay especially that it must persuade the reader to what the writer's views and ideas through the use of an abundant evidential support. I feel uneasy with your choice of topic because either way, it is kind of inhumane whether a death row inmates or innocent animals becomes a subject of science experiments. Anyway, this is just a personal opinion, so don't let this discourage you to write about a topic that you feel like you could tackle easily. I agree that today's class was not out of the ordinary mainly because we usually have the same routine every class.
DeleteI was actually thinking of approaching this topic in a negative light or anti. Although I have previously researched the pros of having death penalty, I firmly still believe that it is against the basic human rights of human beings. Although, from my past research, I remember reading up something similar to this topic from other countries that continue to propagate the death penalty.

Argumentative essays and expository essays are often similar, but argumentative differs with the extensive amount of pre-writing and research involved. If I were to choose a topic on my argumentative essay I would choose one of the topics listed in the examples which was, Fathers should be allowed in the same treatment as mothers in family court decisions. Too many times the mother is favored because of the "nurturing" stereo type. Because I think it is wrong that we often judge men on not being able to be nurturing when sometimes they can be when it comes to their children. We often stereo type fathers as being "macho" or manly, without thinking of how they might be best suited being legal guardians of their own children. All in all, today's activities were informative and I enjoyed it!

DeleteAn argumentative essay is a form of writing that involves heavy research on a certain topic and provides much evidence surrounding that topic. This type of essay is used to describe the author's position on the issue that he/she is writing about. Argumentative essays are longer in length than other essays although a five paragraph essay usually fits the standard. I would write about allowing the use of embryonic stem cell research in the US. It is a good topic to discuss since it has the potential to eliminate or alleviate future human ailments with the manipulation of stem cells. Today's activities, we learned how to identify topic sentences and support sentences in argumentative paragraphs.

DeleteThe argumentative essay that we went over today was very similar to the expository essay except that it is on steroids. A lot more research is involved due to the fact that the point of an argumentative essay is to sway your reader into joining your side. It can be compared similarly to a debate where you must prove your argument with facts and counter-knowledge. The topic I would choose would be All animal experimentation (including cancer research) should be outlawed as advances in technology have made animal testing unnecessary. If experimentation is unnecessary then it should be stopped. If animal cruelty is illegal what makes experimentation any different. Today we learned about two patterns of paragraphs. I would most likely be using Pattern B since it provides a conclusion to back up or reinforce the topic. It would make a more compelling paragraph.
