ReplyDeleteVery true! I believe it was a clearer picture for everyone. We finally had closure on both the writing process and the last essay description. This last process really is the last chance to clarify the essay for the reader. Also. this simple process of editing and revising fixes most errors overlooked while writing the essay. DeleteI enjoyed today's class. At first, I went upstairs and waited outside the computer room. Then we met downstairs in the classroom. Then we realized that class was in the computer room, so we walked back upstairs. With my heavy backpack, and all the walking, I can say I had a good workout for the morning! In class today, I learned a lot about the argumentative and persuasive essays, and editing. The essay brain stretcher was also a great exercise! I wrote about a postcard with the picture of a hotel scene in Los Angeles.
ReplyDeleteIt is very true. Today's class was awesome, because of all the walking that we did. But is also very helping, it helps us to learn more about writing and about each other. Today's class was great.
DeleteI know how you feel, I walked up to the computer room and waited for class then figured out that our class was downstairs in the classroom. It's nice to know I wasn't the only one who went upstairs first. I'm actually happy I won the postcard in class today as well, it was a very nice postcard from San Diego.
DeleteThat confusion of which classroom we're suppose to be meeting for the day, was a very good way to start off our morning. I was fun walking up and down the stairs considering it might have helped some of us get off of sleepiness. I agree that today's class discussion and activities was helpful because it showed us the proper way that we should be following in order to write an effective essay especially that our first essay exam is coming up soon.
DeleteI get generally confused in this class as well. At least you had a good work out! The discussions and exercises were indeed helpful in expanding my knowledge on writing and reading as a whole. Interestingly enough, the postcards also force me think about random things that I had never considered.

DeleteI absolutely agree with you. During the reading I found myself sort of lost, but would find myself being back on track. I could also agree that class today was definitely informative.
DeleteLike you, I also got lost in the reading because of the different editions of the book that we are using, but thank you to some of our kind classmates who pulled me out of my confusion and helped the rest of the class that was lost to find the right pages in order to stay in track along with them. I agree that today was indeed a great refresher of our minds to what the different kinds of essays are and what main purpose do they serve as for us, the writers.
DeleteThe integration and use of two different editions of the textbook in class confuses me at times as well. It sometimes seems to be counterproductive when people get lost and have to ask the teacher where the class is at just to move on. Despite this, the book does provide a clear and concise view on writing an argumentative essay so weighing the pros and cons, I believe the book is actually very progressive and interesting!
DeleteToday's activity was very informative because a lot of my questions were clarified. Also, I now know how to finish my essay for the upcoming tests. All stages of the writing process put together on this worksheet really helped me. It gives me confidence in writing a more effective essay. Lastly, the argumentative/persuasive essay review gave me insight as to what I should write and what I will be expected to provide in my essay. We discussed how our main points had to be strong for our argumentative/persuasive essay, and I am glad that we were able to go over that. In order to have an good argumentative/persuasive essay, your main points and supports have to be strong in order to persuade your readers on the particular topic that you are writing. All in all, today's activities were well enjoyed not only by me. but also my peers.

DeleteI also learned how to distinguish between types of essays in this class! I feel that my understanding of reading and writing as a subject is progressively broadening thanks to this class.
DeleteToday's activity was very informative. Writing argumentative and persuasive essays, to me, are the most challenging. When writing this type of essay we need to make sure that our essays or paragraphs are clear and concise so that there is no confusion. Reading my essay out loud to the class I am able to see what needs to be fixed even after I had edited my paper. From this I learned that editing takes time to make your paper the best.
ReplyDeleteYour totally right, It is very challenging. But today's session make it a little bit clear and it gave me some more knowledge on argumentative and persuasive essay.
DeleteThis is absolutely true! I also have the same problems and reading my essay aloud really helps in identifying minor errors that we tend to overlook.
DeleteI agree with you Honeina, I also had a challenging time. And your main point of being concise and clear in your paragraphs is true!
DeleteI agree that argumentative/persuasive essay is the most challenging because it requires more time to write due to the fact that in needs an ample amount of information in order to write. Also, I like the ideas that we should ensure that we make our paragraphs clear and concise despite the huge data that we might accumulate because that way, we don't confuse our readers and ourselves as well in the process.
DeleteArgumentative essay is quite similar to an expository essay, but the amount of their data and information varies. Argumentative essay needs more evidence therefore lengthier than exposition. Persuasive essay should be written for the purpose of convincing your reader about what idea or argument you're trying to introduce to them. It must be approached with a better knowledge, more collected data, and good understanding because without these, the essay would be arguable and open to question that would make your essay weak and ineffective. Editing, being the last stage in the writing process, is very helpful. It gives the writer a better perception of his previous writing and arrange it in a way where errors are eliminated and grammar is strengthened.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Argumentative essays are very similar to expository essays. However, unlike the expository essay, you would have to have an in depth research about your topic.
DeleteToday's activities includes the discussion on the explanation of an argumentative essay. Also the discussion on the importance of editing your essay. An argumentative essay can be confusing because it is somewhat similar to the expository essay but it is not. In a argumentative essay you have to research and site your sources in a MLA format at the end of the essay. The importance of editing your essay is to make your essay clear and more concise to your audience.
ReplyDeleteIn today's discussion about argumentative essay was very enlightening. In my opinion, it is harder than an expository essay because of how you have to convince your audience into choosing your side.
DeleteAn Argumentative essay is a type of essay that tries to persuade the readers to the writer's thesis statement. As this essay's goal is to persuade, the thesis statement of this essay should be present and clear. In this essay, the writer must present support from both sides of the argument. However, it is important to note that the writer must have stronger support for his/her side. In contrast to the other types of essays, the writer must have to research or be well-informed about the topic. I'm very interested in writing in this type of essay because I don't often write papers in this style. With this lesson, hopefully I'd be able to write effective persuasive essays in the future.
ReplyDeleteI agree. In writing an argumentative essay you do need stronger support on the side you are persuading your audience on. Also, learning more about this type of essay will help me with future argumentative essays.
DeleteI'm sure you will be able to write a persuasive essay that is effective. We are all still a little unsure of how to write a good persuasive essay but i'm sure we will be able to have a better idea after we practice it. Writing this type of paper isn't my forte but I hope that I can improve my writing skills by the end of the class.
DeleteToday's session was very interesting. We learned the last stage of the writing process. The three things I learned from the last stage is the writing, revising, and editing. This is also very important part of the writing essay. In order for you to write an essay, you to know your topic and or research about your topic to get better information. Then, for instance, you get to write and revise your essay and edit it. It is better to have someone to proofread your essays so that he or she can see the mistakes you made.
ReplyDeleteEveryday is a learning day in this class. Other than the 3 other major essays, we learned about the argumentative/persuasive essay. We also were able to edit our essay from the last class. It allowed me to make corrections and add a little more to it. Overall, today's lesson was great.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Tamm that everyday in this class is always a learning day. I enjoyed editing our essay from the last class and I would say that similarly it allowed me to correct my mistakes and having a great lesson today.
DeleteThe argumentative essay that we went over today was very similar to the expository essay except that it is on steroids. A lot more research is involved due to the fact that the point of an argumentative essay is to sway your reader into joining your side. It can be compared similarly to a debate where you must prove your argument with facts and counter-knowledge. As for the editing, its much easier after not seeing your writing after a while then looking at it again. It allows you to see things that you may have overlooked when first writing it.
